Places and Manner of Articulation of Bangla Consonants: A EPG Based Study
نویسندگان
چکیده
Bangla phoneme inventory consists of 32 consonants out of those 16 are stop or plosive and 4 are affricate. This paper presents the detailed investigation of place and manner of articulation of Bengali phonemes. The place of articulation study of consonants is based on Electropalatography (EPG) system and the manner of articulation study is based on acoustic study of large number of well-spoken Bengali VCV sequences in which V represents the seven Bangla vowels /u/, /o/, / /, /a/, /æ/, /e/ and /i/ while C represents all the consonants of Bangla. The study shows that in case of Bangla language plosives have three distinct places of articulation namely dental, alveolar and post alveolar and four manner of articulation.

Percentage of Consonants Correct for 3-5 Years Old Kurdish-Speaking Children With Middle Kurmanji-Mukryani Dialect
Objectives: The present research aims to study the normal development of Percentage of Consonant Correct (PCC) in Kurdish-speaking children, with Middle Kurmanji-Mukryani Dialect as an Articulation Competency Index (ACI). PCC was examined in terms of the manner of articulation and position of sound in the word. Methods: In this descriptoanalytical cross-sectional study, 120 Kurdish-speak...

Articulation disorders in Down's syndrome (DS) are prevalent and often intractable. Individuals with DS generally prefer visual to auditory methods of learning and may therefore find it beneficial to be given a visual model during speech intervention, such as that provided by electropalatography (EPG). In this study, participants with Down's syndrome, aged 10:1 to 18:9, received 24 individualiz...
متن کاملConsistencies and inconsistencies between EPG and locus equation data on coarticulation
Following a previous study using locus equation (LE) and electropalatographic (EPG) data to examine coarticulation of voiced consonants and vowels in CV syllables [1], the present study examines voiceless stops and fricatives using the same analysis techniques. It is found that when LE data for stops is sampled at the stop burst, rather than at vowel onset, the correlation between LE data on co...
متن کاملInfluence of a standard electropalatography artificial palate upon articulation. A preliminary study.
OBJECTIVE This study investigated the influence of a standard electropalatography (EPG) palate upon speech articulation in 3 normal speakers under standard EPG testing conditions. PATIENTS AND METHODS Three adult females aged 26, 31 and 34 years read the experimental phrase 'say CV again' 5 times under 3 experimental conditions: normal speech (without a palate in situ), 45 min after EPG palat...
متن کاملUndifferentiated lingual gestures in children with articulation/phonological disorders.
Previous research using electropalatography (EPG) has shown that a distinctive articulatory characteristic of lingual consonants in the speech of school-age children with articulation/phonological disorders (APD) is a high amount of tongue-palate contact. Consonants produced in this way have been referred to as undifferentiated lingual gestures. This article reviews the EPG literature on undiff...
